Vintage Taxco Sterling Pendant Brooch Convertible Cool Waveform Design

ITEM: A beautiful piece of versatile vintage jewelry, this signed Taxco, Mexico sterling wave or waveform circle can be worn as either a pendant or a brooch. The piece is technically what we call “holloware” with a deeply dimensional design on top and a flat bottom with both a bail for straining onto a chain and a pin back for wearing as a brooch. The signature is the post eagle mark, alpha-numeric code introduced in the latter half of the 1950s and fully embraced by the designers and production houses by the 70s. The silver has that amazing tone that seems endemic to Mexico and the Taxco area in specific. I don't know what the mineral composition is but there's just something so unique about the warmth of Taxco silver that makes it so inviting! Regional silver can show tonal qualities like that. So different to one another that together with buy the design style, once familiar with the subtle differences in tonal qualities, you can begin to fairly regularly pick from a line up, which pieces are Taxco, which pieces are Scandinavian and so on! It's (of course) not a scientific method. But it's true nonetheless! Taxco silver has a warmth and depth about it that is almost a thumbprint. This subtle tonal quality, combined with the high end design and manufacture has combined to create some of the most collectible pieces of sterling out there. This waveform circlet is certainly no exception. Dynamic design, beautiful tones, fantastic surface and versatile wearability. A fabulous piece of collectible sterling jewelry, c.1960-70s, from Taxco, Mexico. Just a great looking piece of jewelry! The alpha numerical code or signature reads: 925 (sterling purity mark) TC-72 (the makers mark or initials and the 72nd to be registered at the assayers office) and Mexico.

SIZE & WEIGHT: A larger sized piece, this dynamic convertible pendant or brooch measures 2 1/2” tall and 2 1/4” wide. A dimensional design that stands 1/4” deep. It weighs in at about 24 grams by my scale.

CONDITION: In very good vintage condition showing minimal wear apparent. The Achilles heel of any piece of holloware is crushing, dings or dents. I see no signs of any of that. No signs of replacement or repair work either. This piece is in good surface, bright, lustrous silver with that wonderful warmth and inviting glow. Cleaned of surface dirt, oils or tarnish, I used a soft chamois to do so. The only polish used was elbow grease so the surface was not stripped away by abrasive methods. There's no right or wrong with polishing. Just a personal preference. If you want me to polish it up to a gleaming bright silver, just ask at checkout via note to seller and add a day to shipping estimate to allow time to do the job properly. Otherwise, it will arrive as seen in the photos. I always recommend using the zoom feature to better ascertain condition meets your own standards as our ideals may differ. Both bail and pin back are intact and functional. This is a beautiful example of vintage silver from a Mecca of sterling silver jewelry makers, Taxco Mexico. A dynamic design in very good condition. Absolutely collector worthy.
