French beautiful antique Marianne Chocolate box 1890 board and coloured papers /So rare / buy - gilded edges

This is a most beautiful buy box - absolutely magical and in truly astounding condition considering it is possibly 120 years old - constructed from paper, card, wood and metal it would have contained chocolates - we are told from the prestigious Marquise de Sévigné chocolat Company - which in 1906 had 11 shops - 2 in Paris and was searched out by the fashionable elite of the time.

The top has an image of Marianne - who is the national personification of the French Republic since the French Revolution, as a symbol of liberty, equality, fraternity and reason.Marianne represents opposition to monarchy and the championship of freedom and democracy against all forms of oppression. The edges of the box are shaped with elegant curves and covered with a glossy mosaic style paper - the colours are bright and totally unfaded as is the entire box - which suggests it has been stored away from light for many years. It has a small gold coloured fastening clasp on the front- which has a small heart in the design.

Condition - Good antique condition - no damage or repairs to box- the base of the box has a scuff - where the paper is missing - please see photos- inside is lined with a paper and a fine silk which has a self textured pattern in cream - the silk is a little frayed at the back edge.
