Royal Doulton Character Jugs and Toby Jugs are one of their popular products with an extensive range of Characters. These two items are occasionally confused with each other but they are actually very different. Toby jugs are models of the entire body while character jugs are models of just the head and shoulders. Doulton (the company's name wasn't changed to Royal Doulton until 1901) produced Toby mugs beginning in the mid 1800's. The character mug was actually a later innovation that was created by Charles Noke, an artist at Doulton.
