Featured Fabric: Parumpi by Narelle Kanpatja Holland from Mantamarru (Jameson)
This painting maps the country called Parumpi, between Mantamaru (Jameson) and Walu rock hole, north of Papulankutja (Blackstone). What was once a traditional walking track is now driven by cars. The thick yellow lines are the sand hills and the circles are the rock holes or ‘soakages' where water exists underground. During times of need soakages can be dug. Knowledge of reliable water sources was extremely important for those living in the arid environment of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Narelle explained that her painting is similar to the designs Yarnangu (people) carve and burn into punu (wood).
Narelle is a senior woman and lives in Mantamaru community. As an artsworker for Papulankutja Artists she supports other artists.
This Delia bag features fabric produced by Flying Fox Fabrics under license in collaboration with Papulankutja Artists.
Our Delia bags are made by Women for Women, our partner foundation based in Cambodia. Women for Women prides itself in providing opportunities and skills that empower Cambodian women and girls to be leaders in their community. Each Delia Bag is handmade with love and care by the women of Women for Women, so please note that every bag is unique, and the placement of the fabric design is different on each item.
