Restored Antique Woodworking Round Molding Plane #15 (5.2cm/2’’) 1930s, Dutch Maker: J. NOOITGEDAGT, buy Old Wooden hand plane, Carpentry tools
Beautiful antique woodworking Round Molding Plane made by the renowned.
Beautiful antique woodworking Round Molding Plane made by the renowned Dutch maker J. Nooitgedagt (read below company history). The iron is 5.2cm/2'' wide and thus No. 15. The handplane comes from the North of The Netherlands and was made between 1865-1945.
The body is made out of beech wood and features an exquisite carved horn on the front. The back handle seems to be parted. The handplane consists of 3 parts: a wooden block (the body including the handle and the front horn), the iron (blade) and the wooden wedge (which keeps the blade tightly inside the body). The blade is made out of hardened steel and is 5.2cm / 2'' wide. The bottom side of the iron is black lacquered, as it was customary for many years by the manufacturer. The body has the old stamp of the maker on the front side (a crown with the initials “J. N” below) which is barely visible.
The plane is comparable to the Stanley planes in both quality and history. It is a true collectors item and a piece of Dutch heritage.
The plane is rather old and shows extensive signs of woodworm damage (see pictures). It is also pre-owned and thus shows signs of use. After sharpening the iron, the plane can still be used. The plane can also be used for decoration on a Farmhouse style interior, a workshop or a man cave. It can be used as a door stopper, as a book end or simply display it on a shelf. It is the perfect gift for Father's Day, for a birthday or an anniversary.

J. Nooitgedagt was a renowned Dutch woodworking tools manufacturer. It was originally stablished by Jan Jarings Nooitgedagt in 1865. The main products he produced at the time were ice skates and woodworking planes. With his wooden ice skates he achieved worldwide recognition. The company grew to employ 170 people and was run by 4 different generations of Nooitgedagt. For a few decades, the company also made beautiful wooden toys. In 1975, they stopped the production of wooden toys and a few years later also the production of wooden ice skates due buy to the competition coming from Japan and West-Germany. At the beginning of the 21st century the company was taken over and became a branch of an international company while keeping its name. A few years later, the parent company decided to close the location and that was the end of Nooitgedagt.

The block has extensive signs of woodworm damage; however, it has been recently restored to prevent it from spreading out further. It does have scratches and marks from its use, which give it plenty of character. The back handle seems to be parted. The wedge comes out smoothly while the iron is tightly in place. There are a couple of cracks, but nothing that affects the integrity of the plane. The iron shows signs of pitting, but remains solid. The edge of the iron has to be sharpened for a perfect woodworking result.
RESTORATION: The body has been thoroughly cleaned, treated against woodworms and a protective coating has been applied twice. In addition, the rust on the blade has been removed and a protective coating has been applied.
