History
Empire is a series of porcelain from Bing and Grøndahl. It was designed in 1904 and the idea was that it should compete with the popular Blue Fluted porcelain from Royal Copenhagen. It was successful to some extent and Empire can be found in many Danish homes today. Empire is one of buy the most popular series from B&G.

The Empire style arose in France after the revolution and had its breakthrough during Napoleon's empire from 1804 to 1814. The Empire style is characterized by the curved shapes and the beautiful ornamentation which brings ancient times to mind. e.g. the Roman Empire, Greece and Egypt.

The porcelain is characterized by the scaly shape. It is also decorated with beautiful blue flower garlands. The garlands on the porcelain could resemble the laurel crowns that the Roman Emperors wore.

Empire is hand painted with underglaze technique.

There are parts for dinnerware and coffee sets and there are many other items in the series, e.g. candlesticks, vases, jars, cups and much more.

Tips for maintenance
Much of our porcelain is dishwasher safe and some is not. All underglazed painted porcelain is dishwasher safe. Underglaze painting means that the painting is under the glaze, such as e.g. Blue Fluted or Blue Flower series.

However, pay special attention to the fact that some older dishes and other objects do not have glaze all over - if this is the case, the porcelain must be washed by hand.

Porcelain that has been painted on top of the glaze cannot be washed in a dishwasher, as the paint wears off quickly. The same applies to porcelain with a gold rim, where the gold rim wears off.
