"Bouse de Ratine à Ceinture Brodée." Antique French pochoir from the Journal des Dames published in Paris, 1914. The pochoir process was a buy labor intensive technique of producing prints using stencils to apply to the different colors by hand. This is an original pochoir, not a modern reproduction.
"Journal des Dames et des Modes, Costumes Parisiens" was a precursor to the Gazette du Bon Ton and was similarly designed to appeal to the elite of Paris through the arts, fashion, beauty and lifestyle. It too featured beautiful pochoirs by prominent artists of the time, all of which were produced on hand laid paper watermarked "Journal des Dames." The Journal des Dames was more exclusive than the Gazaette du Bon Ton with less than 1,300 copies originally published.
