FREE SHIPPING -- Celebrate Spring planting with this merry farm couple: Tom Clark's 1987 MacDonald and his wife, Flora. It looks like they are just finishing up!
You know this story. Artist Clark wrote: "Old MacDonald has a farm, and he's doing his spring plowing and planting. He has sown seven different types of seeds, but the butterfly is concerned because he doesn't see any flower seeds--only vegetables. He has fluttered near to MacDonald's ear to whisper, "What about me?" But MacDonald is smiling and saying, "I thought of you. If you look in my satchel, you'll find sunflower seeds." We are all anxious to know what crops have been planted, and hope for a bumper harvest. MacDonald's coin is from Italy and shows a similar tractor. It's easy for MacDonald to remember his tractor's license plate--it's EIEIO!
Measuring, 6.75" tall by 5" wide, MacDonald was issued July 1, 1989 by Cairn Studio and retired March 31, 1996. Our MacDonald is #36 from mold #5023.
MacDonald is helped on the farm by his wife Flora, who is also available here. Artist Clark wrote: "Flora is named for Flora McDonald, who helped Bonny Prince Charlie escape to the Island of Skye in 1746, after his thwarted attempt to seize the throne. Almost thirty years later, Flora McDonald and her husband traveled to North America where they settled in the Cape Fear River Area, near my hometown. My Flora helps her husband farm. She has a weakness for day lilies, so she plants them on every border. She also planted peas, spinach, okra, radishes, Swiss chard, and her husband's favorite, California Wonder Peppers. MacDonald thought Flora would be content to sit at home and weed the flower garden. Imagine his surprise when Flora said "But, John dear, I want a green tractor."
Our "Flora" is #41 of mold #5078. Also part of the farm series, she was created by Tom Clark in 1989, issued by Cairn Studio on July 1, 1990 and retired March 31, 1996. She measures 5.75" tall and is 5.25" in diameter.
