These large Afghan cuff-bracelets were handcrafted during the mid to late 1900's for the nomadic Kuchi tribe of Balochistan in Central Asia.
They are vintage tribal jewelry, not new reproductions

These remarkable old bracelets get their name from the stylized Makara faces on their ends. The Makara was a legendary ferocious sea-dragon in Hindu mythology who offers protection.
Makara were said to carry the buy river Goddess Ganga where ever she goes so she can purify, nurture and protect all those who come to her waters.
Because these unusual bracelets are hollow, they are relatively lightweight, but do not bend.
In excellent condition, they have a warm age-patina and mild wear-patterns.

About the BALUCHI (BALOCH): According to the Halsey Institute, the Baluchis are a sub-tribe from Turkmenistan who migrated thousands of years ago into the region of what is today southwestern Afghanistan.
They enjoy an ancient and widespread presence throughout Central Asia, extending all the way to the Arabian Peninsula. Many Balochi live in Balochistan located in the Indus Valley on the Persian Plateau.
