Guatemalan Vintage Mayan fabric Corte textile Beautiful fabric
Beautiful vintage textile from the highlands of Guatemala.
A Corte is a skirt worn by Mayan women even today and consists of a long piece of fabric , which is wrapped around the waist several times and secured by a Faja (belt)
The buy textile is made of two tightly woven cotton panels, joined by a seam lengthwise
Corté Fabric is Usually woven on treadle looms by men and is strong , but in some of the villages it is hand woven by women on small back strap looms. Fabric from Zunil, Chichicastenango, San Pedro and San Juan Sacatepéquez are some of the fine examples of this type of textile
Suitable for upholstery projects, window coverings, bed and sofa covers, cushion covers etc, the possibilities are endless
This fabric is in good vintage condition. No holes, no stains. Personally sourced from many indigenous Mayan villages throughout the highlands of Guatemala..

I personally source each piece from indigenous women throughout the highlands of Guatemala using fair trade practices, this is beneficial to their whole families whilst at the same time giving the outside world the opportunity to own and wear a genuine piece of Mayan history.
Please note that this item is vintage and can be up to 50 years old, so small imperfections are possible , however, any obvious flaws are always mentioned and photographed Please bear in mind that this item is around 35 years old, so do not expect brand new and perfect, this is an historic, but still wearable item
Please check all pictures carefully prior to bidding
Fair trade
Shipping costs
Please note that shipping costs are not inflated.
It is expensive to ship from here in Guatemala.
Some sellers offer free or reduced shipping simply by inflating the cost of the item being shipped. I do not.
I believe in offering beautiful, worn , vintage pieces at the cheapest rate possible, whilst paying the ladies selling them, a good and fair price.
I strongly believe in fair trade practices and when traveling to many of the isolated villages, my friend Ingrid Aracely Pocon , who is cackchiquel Mayan travels with me, to interact with the ladies selling their garments in their native tongues ensuring a fair price.
Quite often it is possible to ship more than one item for the lowest price from the shipping company. Please ask and I will be happy to help
PLEASE NOTE:

A telephone number must be provided as UPS will not accept shipments from Guatemala without one
