This purse was designed and handmade by artisans in Colombia, South America. We use a mix of techniques to complete our designs and our main goal is to highlight and celebrate the beauty of mother nature.
We believe in support and showcase our folklore, Latin-America has a long and rich history of different folk styles, we have chosen the molas designs because we are captivated by its beauty but also to support, empower the women of the Kuna community, who learned this buy art style from generation to generation.
We use two main materials for our purses, Molas and high quality leather. The Mola, or Molas, is a hand-made textile that forms part of the traditional women's clothing of the Kuna people from Panama and Colombia in the Caribbean Coast. Molas are made using a reverse appliqué technique. Several layers (usually two to seven) of different-colored cloth (usually cotton) are sewn together; the design is then formed by cutting away parts of each layer. The designs and patterns are unique for every artisan women as they incorporate both traditional and modern elements from their culture and nature.

Molas have their origin in body painting. Only after colonization by the Spanish and contact with missionaries did the Kuna start to transfer their traditional geometric designs on fabric, first by painting directly on the fabric and later by using the technique of reverse appliqué. It is not known for certain when this technique was first used. It seems to have originated in the second half of the nineteenth century.
