This is a 12 piece set with 4 side plates, 4 saucers and 4 cups. This is a very rare pattern made by Mosa in the town of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Every piece is so dainty and beautiful. The clay body has a cool gray cast. Beautiful gray blossoms and branches adorn every piece-- I think they are dogwood. The blossoms appear on both sides of the cups and there is also a tiny one inside. The plates each feature three branches in varying size and configuration giving this design a very organic presence. The plates are buy scalloped and rimmed in a thin line of light blue. The same light blue rims the little cups. The cups (save one) have the most lovely sculptured, scalloped feet.
Disclaimer: one cup does not quite belong. It has a different handle and a different foot. This pattern is so rare that I don't think a replacement cup would ever be found, so I listed it in this set so that it makes an even 4. It does look like it belongs; only the tiniest details differ.
Condition: The one cup (the unique one) has a flaw in the bottom. It looks like a crack that wasn't noticed in manufacture. Glaze covers the crack. It might be just fine-- I don't know if I'd use that one for tea. (See the last photo). Other than that, the set seems nearly perfect. Some of the ornamentation has minor scuffs.
I can't be certain about the age of this set. I did find that a merger occurred in 1958 so the mark on the bottom predates that merger. The factory was most prolific in 1913 when Mosa pieces found their way around the globe. It seems not many remain. Enjoy this unique find!
