This beautiful rhinestone butterfly brooch is from the 1960s, and blends autumnal colors with gold tone metal for a stunning and whimsical piece of vintage jewelry.
The unsigned butterfly brooch is likely D&E Juliana.
Juliana costume jewelry was produced by DeLizza & Elster, which was founded in 1947 to manufacture everything from buttons and buckles to pins and pendants for such venerable costume jewelers as Hattie Carnegie, Hobe, Kenneth J. Lane, and Weiss.
In 1967, chief designer Frank DeLizza and business partner Harold Elster decided to create a brand of their own by placing paper tags with the Juliana trademark on some of their pieces. The brand lasted barely two years, but it became synonymous with DeLizza & Elster. Pieces made before 1967 buy are often unsigned.
This butterfly features four marquis shaped faux amber stones, as well as two marquis cut yellow stones. There are numerous yellow, red and orange round stones in the etched gold tone setting. All of the stones are prong set.
The brooch closes with a circle safety clasp.
The piece measures approximately 1 5/8 inches tall and wide.
It is a great collector piece of Mid Century jewelry.
