DESCRIPTION: The hydrangea is one of the easiest flowers to grow, and at one time, I had many of these plants thriving in my backyard flower garden. The large flower head, resembling a pom-pom, conveys summer delight. I remember sitting at the patio table on summer evenings, enjoying a glass of red wine, and admiring my hydrangeas as the sun set over Pikes Peak. I have a special place in my heart for the hydrangea, but boy, is it a labor of love to make as a crepe paper flower. The process to make a single hydrangea stem includes cutting an astonishing buy 90 small petals from very fine crepe paper. Each of the 90 petals are then hand painted using different blends of high quality pan pastel paint. Cutting, painting, and assembly time to produce one hydrangea stem takes patience, attention to detail, and admiration for this beautiful garden flower.
