About:
The marbling of Bennington-style porcelain knobs makes them an understated yet stylish addition to any door. This style knob was made popular by early Bennington potteries in Vermont, whose redware pottery inspired the knobs' red-brown coloration. Bennington-style knobs were made by mixing porcelain with minerals, which resulted in swirls, marbling, flecks, etc. This complete set includes 2 doorknobs, 1 spindle, and 2 set screws.
Specs:
Knobs—2 1/4 in. diameter
How It Works:
Vintage doorknobs are fairly straightforward, but you'll want to ensure that your door setup will accept this style of spindle. Many vintage doorknob sets are meant for mortise-style latches within the door (the square spindle design of this knob is specific to older mortise latches).
As is common with older Bennington/porcelain knobs, this knob may very slight imperfections. However, I do not restore many porcelain knobs that have large chips/cracks. This particular set is in very good shape!
How I Restored It:
I resurfaced the stems and spindle to remove rust/corrosion from the metal. Any remaining buy marks on the metal are slight and do not detract from the beauty of the set.
How It Lasts:
I finished the metal components (stems, spindle, and screw heads) with a protective coating for metals. This will prolong the metal's lasting shine and protect against future corrosion.
