Red Divide "Ha/Mo" (red on blue): Mechanically drawn using foutain pens on buy heavy watercolor paper. Generative art - each piece is unique.
A perfect square of evenly spaced parallel blue lines is disturbed.
buy A perfect square of evenly spaced parallel blue lines is disturbed by a red vertical broken line that cuts randomly through the field, pushing the blue lines away.
Seen from a distance, it looks like a blue square, but coming closer you distinguish the dividing line and then the line field itself and the individual lines inside.
The blue line field is the same for every piece in the series but the path of the red line is unique for each work. It can also be interrupted before it arrives at the bottom.
>>> Available as a diptych with a mirrored blue line cutting through a red line field. Contact me if you want both works.
The unique dividing line and its effects on the line field for each work is generated by a custom algorithm and then drawn with foutain pens on heavy watercolour paper using a computer controlled drawing machine (a pen plotter). The quality of the work is checked and the work is then signed.
The drawing itself measures 151×243 mm and the paper 297×210 mm. Sold unframed - it fits any standard A4 frame (or bigger with an A4 matte). Contact me if you want a framed version or need it cut to a specific size (for example to fit a specific frame size).

This artwork is part of my "Divide" series. A series of dense horizontal line fields being divided by a rogue vertical line. Visualizing the action of a chaotic element inside a perfectly orderly system. Generated by a custom algorithm and soon to be also available in digital form.
Made to order
- The artwork will be made specially for you when I receive the order. I do not prepare artworks in advance because I am always improving small details both in code and during the crafting process. The exact creation date will be drawn on the back of the work (along with my monogram and the title).
Unique dividing line
- Each "Divide" has a common set of rules for the progression of the dividing line. The individual path the dividing line takes and the impact it has on the line field are random and form a unique pattern that will never be repeated for any other work. The precise path will be archived with your order and can be drawn again only for you, if you want a duplicate or need a replacement for example.
Rough paper
- This series is drawn on heavy watercolour paper. It is solid but still needs some support (it cannot stand on its own without bending a little bit). If left unframed you can use special tape on the back to fix it to a surface for example (ask me for advice if you are unsure). You can feel the paper (with clean hands obviously). This 100% cotton rough paper is made by the french company Arches and its weight is 300gsm (or 140lbs). Please note that the paper is natural and thus not completely white.
Signed on the front or back
- My monogram "Ö" is written on the back of the work. It is the only element drawn by hand - all the rest is done by a drawing machine. If you do not intend to change the works orientation (which is allowed, even though the initial orientation is the "natural" one), I can sign it in front too, with my "Ö" monogram in the bottom right corner.
Care
- The technique used here (ink on paper) is very durable. I suggest displaying it in a glassless frame or maybe even unframed depending on where you will display it (you can ask me for advice). It should be kept away from direct sunlight and anything liquid. If needed you can gently dust it off with a soft brush.
