'From Greenland's Icy Mountains' was originally written by Reginald Heber as a hymn in 1819, and is printed here as a poem complimented by 20 beautiful illustrations by Frederic B. Schell.

The book features a blue bookcloth semi-hard cover with a black border, and silver and gold metallic printed design of flowers and foliage in the lower right corner of the front cover. The title is also in gold in the top left corner, while the spine is plain. The condition of the binding is excellent, with only minor wear around the edges. The corners are rounded and the edges of the text block are gilded. Copyrighted to the Philadelphia based company Porter & Coates, this book was published in the UK by the firm John Walker & Co. in 1884 and is a first edition.

Inside, there are dark blue patterned end papers to front and rear, with a pale smudge to the paper inside the front cover and a partial split along the spine to the rear paper. The second front end paper is heavily foxed and sits opposite a beautiful engraved frontispiece bearing the book's title. There are one or two gaps between the pages which reveal the internal binding, and which have given the central signature a slight wobble. The main pages are of a heavier, glossier paper and are in excellent condition with very minimal wear. Each pair of pages bears a stanza of the hymn's text and an exquisite monochrome engraving to illustrate it. A beautifully bound Victorian Christian book which would make a lovely gift for a Confirmation or other buy special occasion.
