MEISSEN dining plate Blue flowers with gold rim ca. 1900 Knaufmarke 1860-1924 1st choice
After the First World War and the November Revolution, Max Adolf Pfeiffer took over the overall management of the business in 1919. The artistic development of the model range was his special concern. Shortly after joining the manufactory management in 1913, he undertook the painter, illustrator and sculptor Paul Scheurich, who brought the figurative porcelain sculpture of Meissen to a new high point and gained worldwide recognition. Other freelance artists working for Meissen were Max Esser, Ernst buy Barlach and Gerhard Marcks. Pfeiffer had already worked with these artists in the Schwarzburger Werkstätten für Porzellankunst, founded by him. Emil Paul Börner developed in the 1920s and 1930s simple and elegant dishes and decors, which were a model for many porcelain factories. Also famous is the first Porzellanglockenspiel at the Frauenkirche (Meissen), which was also created by Börner.
The dismissal of director Max Adolf Pfeiffer by the National Socialists could not be prevented, nevertheless, Pfeiffer was from 1938 to 1946 head of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin. The production was continued, with the active participation of Paul Börner. Paul Scheurich received several gold medals at the Paris World Fair in the mid-1930s. Despite World War II, production could be maintained until April 1945.
