Note that 3d printed parts printed with FDM technology have common appearance flaws close up. Our printers have been tuned to provide the best quality possible but the following are common attributes of 3d printing. Please get in contact if you have any questions or would like further detail.
- Parts have visible layer lines on the vertical planes of objects where the printer has built up the 3d object at the selected layer height (0.2mm layers in this instance)
- Parts have print lines where the print head has moved backwards and forwards to form the flat surface, this will appear as diagonal lines on the top surfaces of models.
- Parts may have minor stringing of plastic between 2 points, this is where the printer has needed to move between points to continue printing. This is easily cleaned up with fingers or using a hobby knife.
- Parts may have minor warping at sharp corners or edges on the base. Normally this is not noticeable as the warping is generally on parts facing the ground.
- A seam line may be visible on some parts, this is where the print head has started and stopped to go up a layer, this has been tuned to be as hidden as possible.
- Narrow parts of the model are fragile and may break off easily, handle the model from the larger mass areas to avoid breakage. If a break does occur it is generally easy to repair with super glue.
- Narrow parts or peaks may appear rougher than the rest of the model. This is due in part to the high heat of the nozzle and insufficient cooling to harden the model in a small area.
- Overhangs of the model (think anywhere where this isn't material holding up the model such as a 90 degree doorway) may appear rougher than the rest of the model, this is due to there being less material to hold the printed material up under gravity.
- All parts are printed hollow with minimal structural infill to keep weight and therefore costs down (materials and shipping).
