This listing is for a kuro-kaki black persimmon natsume made around 20-30 years ago. Kuro-kaki is black persimmon wood commonly used for making small cabinets and tea utensils. It is categorized as a hardwood and has a graceful wood grain, it also has a beautiful smooth texture when polished. Such wood has been highly prized since it was first used some 1300 years ago, and at that time was reserved specifically for nobility. The natsume in this listing was made from untreated black persimmon wood and was carved from the ceiling beam of an abandoned farmhouse that was torn down in Niigata. Condition
It's in very good condition aside from six small holes on the bottom, and some minor surface imperfections. The wood was rescued from an old farmhouse, it's fairly common to have small borer holes in wood retrieved from such houses.
