A very vintage Western Auto Supply tool or socket set box featuring hip roof, inner tray and leather handle. This one dates to between 1936 and 1939 when the logo on inside of its lid was in use. It measures 19 1/4"L x 7 1/4"D x 9"T and weighs in at nearly 10 lbs. The leather handle appears to be the original and is worn. The box appears to have been re-painted at some point to protect it and done so that the logo was preserved. As shown in the pics, it was once owned by someone with the initials R.H.J. According to old Western Auto catalogues, this box might have been the container for a set of sockets from Western Auto's Chrome X Quality line of such tools made with vanadium steel. It's been remarkably well cared for. There are no dents. There is no rust. This one might make a great display piece buy or certainly could be pressed back in to service.
