Vintage Mascot gilt London landmarks loose powder compact. Original sifter, puff, pochette and box 1940s

This compact is in excellent condition. The lid is engine turned and embossed with London landmarks.

The compact opens with a push button to reveal a clean mirror with a few tiny age spots, where the silvering has come away, but still gives buy a good reflection. The internal gilding is bright, the powder well is pristine, as is the branded puff and sifter. It has been protected in its original felt pochette. The reverse is engine turned in typical Mascot style.

This measures 7.8 cm in diameter. The box is in very good condition, and I love the image of the lady applying her powder, It bears the legend "Mascot, powder compact of taste and distinction". Please look at my photos as they form part of the description.

Mascot was a trade name used by manufacturer A.S. Brown & Co Ltd, London England. The firm purchased Kigu in the late 1970s before being taken over themselves by Laughton & Sons makers of Stratton. Prior to 1950 A.S.Brown used the initials ASB on their compacts.

The London landmarks are Eros (at Picadilly Circus), Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.
