RARE Carlsbad, New buy Mexico Sterling Spoon Vintage Collectible (Frank Whiting)

Here we have for you a really unique and highly collectible vintage sterling silver souvenir spoon featuring the subject matter of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

A bit of history...
Located along the banks of the Pecos River, Carlsbad was originally called Eddy on September 15, 1888, for Charles B. Eddy, co-owner of the Eddy-Bissell Livestock Company. The town later voted to change its name to Carlsbad after the famous European spa -- Carlsbad Bohemia -- because they had become known for marketing their mineral springs for their medicinal qualities.
Most of Carlsbad's development was due to irrigation water. Local cattlemen recognized the value of diverting water from the Pecos River to the grazing lands on Halagueno Ranch, so many construction projects were undertaken to establish an irrigation system.

Depicted on the spoon's bowl is a scene of a cowboy or cattleman roping a steer. 'Carlsbad, N.M.' is at the top of the spoon handle in a popular font of a certain period found on other collectible spoons of the time. The rear of the handle is stamped 'STERLING' with a maker's hallmark we believe belongs to Frank Whiting of Attleboro, Massachusetts.

This nicely detailed and collectible spoon is in vintage condition with signs of expected wear and tarnishing, as seen in the photos. It measures just under 5.5" in length and has a buy nice weight of 16.6 grams to it. Feels very satisfying in the hand.
