Calathea lancifolia is a wonderfully showy houseplant. It has upright, lance-shaped leaves with long wavy edges that form in clumps, spreading slowly over time. The leaves are variegated with dark green strokes on a pale green background. The undersides are a burgundy red and velvety to the touch. It likes to be moist at all times and humidity is key.
Botanical Name: Calathea Lancifolia 'Rattlesnake'
Common Names: Peacock Plant, Zebra Plant
Description: This Calathea Lancifolia also commonly called the Rattlesnake comes with dark green leaves that have unique ripples. Like all Calathea plants, the leaves adjust as the sun rotates throughout the day buy. Calathea Plants, native to tropical South and Central America, Africa, and the West Indies, are grown primarily for their beautiful, brightly colored, upright, oval leaves.
Care Guide:
Water: 4 - Med/High: Prefers more water than most and likes to be moist, but not soaked, at all times. Use a spray bottle to mist and increase humidity levels or bring it into the kitchen, without soaking the soil and roots. Only water with distilled, aquarium water or rain water. Calathea's do not do well with tap water.
Light: 3 - Medium: The plant prefers natural, diffused light. Can be placed in a spacious living room. Indirect light is preferred. No direct sunlight on the leaves.
Difficulty: 3 - Medium: Not too difficult to keep happy but does require some attention. Of all the Calathea, I think Rattlesnakes are the easiest. The no tap water is a commitment you need to make.
