This small lamp is made from a dead-standing aspen log and shows the marks from bark beetle trails, elk chew, branches, scars, etc. Part of the natural drying process of the wood includes checking and cracking. This does not continue once the wood has been finished. It does not affect the structural integrity of the lamp, but only adds to the character of the piece. Each lamp is as unique as the tree it was made from. After the bark is removed from the aspen log, it is sanded, and then oiled to bring up the many colors in the wood. Three coats of lacquer give the lamp a beautiful smooth finish. The light socket is a high quality solid brass fixture. The wood base of this lamp is approx. 8" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter.
