Product code: Radcliffe College Wedgewood Plates, featuring Fay House- 1934. Rare find! Sold buy individually, four are available.

Genuine Vintage Wedgewood of Etruria & Barlaston 9" Commemorative Art Collectors Plates bearing Fay House - Radcliffe College Design created in 1934. Four plates are available at 60 dollars each.

Plates were imported and sold by Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Co., Boston, Massachusetts. Manufactured by Wedgwood, Etruria, England. The signature on so many a series of fine Wedgewood pottery; Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Company was founded in 1810 by Otis Norcross. In 1853 Jerome Jones began to work for Norcross, and Louis McDuffee joined the company in 1863. The firm became 'Jones, McDuffee and Stratton' in 1871 and was known by that name until it ceased to exist after it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1960.

Pottery bearing these marks span the production years up to 1940, since after 1940 a trademark "TM" would be on the Wedgewood badge.
This item was made by Wedgwood exclusively for Jones, McDuffee and Stratton and is a very fine example of the pottery they were producing in the 1930's, Typical of the firm's notoriety for producing historical American china with scenes, events, personalities, buildings, monuments, educational institutions, as well as civic and national landmarks, and ships for which they are well known. We are dating this piece right at 1934, as this would have been the 50th Anniversary of Radcliffe making Fay House the first permanent structure of the College.

These plates are about as nearly prefect an example that you will ever see. The markings are crisp, clear and easy to read, all are genuine Wedgewood and correct for these pieces. Each plate on the reverse bears 3 very distinct kiln support marks from the clay saggers they were fired in. But the spurs are clean and not discolored - you cannot find any Wedgewood plate like these without these spurs - it's just part of the package. The red and white of glaze and artwork is clean, clear and crisp and it is obvious that hese plates were never used at all in the first 88 years of their life.

As near-to-perfect as you will ever find. they measure 8-7/8" diameter and bear both the Wedgwood and James McDuffee Importer marks. No chips or cracks, no scuffs or post-production blemishes at all and the proud rigs are clean and shiny - truly rate these a 9-out-of-10, or better!
If a family member attended Radcliffe, or Harvard, or you just love Massachusetts History or the Ivy League, these plates are must-have!
