Paithani Art handed down from generation to generation, the art remaining within the family of the craftsman.
Even in today's advanced world the methods of weaving Paithani have not changed at all from 200 B.C.

History of Paithani
It is only from the 6th Century BC, that we have more definite historical evidence about thecrafts of Paithan. The art is more than 2000 years old, developed in Paithan (Pratishthan) capital of legendary Satavahanas ruler. Satavahanas ruler used to export cotton and silks to the great Roman Empire against the exchange of Gold.

During period of Vakatakas (230 to 550 AD) chalukya (630 to 700 AD) Rashtrakutas
(730 to 912 AD) Yadavas (915 to 1296 AD) and Nizam of Ahmednagar(1490 to 1636 AD) has special love for Paithani textiles.
During Mughal era (1600-1800 AD) Aurangzeb patronized the weavers and the designs in this era came to be known as “Aurangzebi”.
It was period of Maratha empire that made paithani at it bests.
In 17th century Raje Raghujibaba Patil, the founder of Yeola city, took along with him some families from among the expert weavers from Paithan to Yeola.
