The Abbey of Fontenay is a Cistercian abbey founded in 1118 in the French commune of Marmagne, in the department of Côte-d'Or and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region
The abbey of Fontenay is founded by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, and receives the name of Fontenay because the site has buy many sources.
It was consecrated by the Cistercian Pope Eugene III on September 21, 1147 in the presence of ten cardinals, eight bishops and many abbots of the young Order, including that of Clairvaux.
