This is a beautiful statue of ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius (551-479 B.C.) who is considered to have been profoundly influential even today in China. His staff is held by his left hand and a bouquet of flowers in his right arm. I assume these two things have special meaning in Chinese culture.
I believe this statue is made of plaster or a similar type product. It does not appear to be sealed or glazed. There are some rough spots and tiny buy holes (air bubbles?) that appear to be original to the piece. It is quite clean and in good vintage condition.
I don't have many suggestions for this statue. I would imagine it would or could be used in Chinese ceremonies, meditation or as decor.
