Original, signed watercolor painting of the time-honored Hollyhock garden flower. A pale green flower stalk bears double buy blossoms ranging in color from white to candy pink to burgundy with lime green centers. Flowers grade in opening from baby buds on the tip of the stalk to fully open blossoms on the bottom. Deeply textured leaves are thrown in high relief by the bright midday sun.
The Hollyhock (Alcea rosea) has been cultivated for a long time. It is thought Hollyhocks were used to treat injured horse hocks during the Crusades, and thus the name is a familiarized term for the Holy Land and horse hocks. The inspiration for this painting was a Hollyhock growing wild in a vacant lot in Taos, New Mexico.
The painting is oriented vertically in an 9x12 inch size, and is painted with bright, fine art-quality watercolor paints on cold press, durable, 140 lb. watercolor paper.
Painting comes unframed.
Note the painting is signed, although a few of the photographs were taken prior to signing.
