These 2 beautiful handmade dolls are from South Africa. The Ndebele doll from South Africa still has its original tag explaining the doll‘s meaning as an initiation symbol given by a mother to her daughter upon reaching puberty. The doll has a pretty beaded apron and wears a colourful wool wrap that conceals her little cloth arms and hands. The Zulu doll has a little Springbok skin shield, jewellery made from seed beads and fluffy, colourful Pom-poms.
The Ndebele doll is 9 inches tall and the Zulu doll is 11 inches tall.
Both dolls are in very good condition apart from a little dust that has accumulated in the folds of the fabric. Also, the Zulu doll seems to have some residue fabric glue around her right breast. The beadwork on both dolls is intact without loose or missing beads.
