This mold is a nearly diamond shaped mold and measures about 8” x 4 1/4" and contains 3 scenes; upper (Crucifixion), center (3 Wise Men) and lower (Resurrection). The upper scene appears to illustrate an ancient legend about how, during times of famine, a mother pelican would feed her young with blood from her own breast so they would live and not die. The legend is said to have been adopted by the Christian church during the 2nd century to reflect how Christ shed His blood for us. Images of the legend appear in ancient cathedrals, art and literature. The center image is the largest and measures about 3 3/4" in diameter. It depicts the wise men bearing gifts to the young Christ Child. The three men are beautifully adorned in their finery. Angels, a camel and the star are also shown. The lower image is also from an ancient legend and was adopted by the early Christian church. It is that of a phoenix rising up from fire on the 3rd day to rebirth. The phoenix is said to represent the death and then the resurrection of Christ on the 3rd day. The depth and details of all the images are simply amazing. The border also is of a very good depth and is designed to allow you to cut the main Nativity scene out as one design or to leave the design as a whole in an almost diamond shape.
