The traditional WINDMILL shape of the Dutch teapot was inspired by the famous Dutch Delftware. Decorated with the white glaze and distinctive dark blue pattern, this teapot is a classic sample of Dutch pottery. In Holland tea first became renowned for its medicinal qualities. The Dutch even exported it to Portugal, Italy and France as a cure for all ills. The Dutch sent an Embassy to the Chinese Emperor in 1665 to improve relations between the two countries. One of their member, Jean Nieuhoff, wrote an account of this trip in which the first ever reference to drinking tea with milk was made: "This drink was made of the Herb Tea or Cha in fair water, which afterwards they boil until the third part be consumed, to which they add warm milk about a forth part, with a little salt, and then drink it as hot as they can well endure..."

Tea has been drunk in china from as far back as 2700 BC when the legend goes, it was discovered by the Emperor Shen-nung. While boiling his drinking water, the Emperor noticed some leaves fall off the branch of the wild tea tree into his pot. On tasting it, he discovered the leaves had imbued the water with a wonderful flavour - and so tea drinking was born.
