History
Pronounced ANE-hair-yar, singular einheri, einherjar literally means “those who fight alone.” These are the spirits of elite warriors who have died in battle and brought to Valhalla by the Valkyries. While in Valhalla, by night, einherjar feast and drink mead; by day, they train for Ragnarök, the near world-apocalyptic event of the world and the final battle between the gods and giants. During Ragnarök the einherjar will fight alongside Odin where, it is foretold, they and Odin will eventually fall in battle. Viking warriors hoped to become einherjar upon their death.
