One day during a hot summer day my daughter suggested to me to make fans. Fans?! I thought. So as usual I looked around for stuff I already had just to get me buy started. I went through some fabric remnants and there I spied different colorful pieces/scraps of material. But, how was I to make fans. How to get the accordion effect and stability? Ah! Interfacing should do the trick! I could make the fans without handles, but I wanted something different. So, up from the floor I got leaving a mess of remnants and started looking for something that I could use for handles. I went to a closet . . . clothes hangers. Nope. Anything on the shelf, nope! I went to the kitchen, looked in the drawers, I found a few things that could possibly be used, but not quite. “Okay, here I come basement”, I thought to myself. So, down the stairs I went. “What a mess! I got to do something. I just have to.” I let my eyes roam here and there. And after not too much looking (thank goodness) I saw paint stirring sticks. I'll either paint and/or carve designs into the stirring stick. And so with fabric remnants, interfacing and paint stirring sticks the creation of one of a kind unique and attractive handcrafted avant-garde hand fan/wall fan was created.

While making the fans the idea of making an attractive carrying bag for them to be easily carried and easily accessible came to mind. The bag would be small enough to carry in a larger handbag such as a beach bag and large enough to carry alone with a few items in it.

By tying the drawstrings of both sides together the bag can hang over the shoulder or hang from around the neck; by tying the drawstrings to the loops a backpack is formed.

Tip: When you pull on the drawstrings I recommend that you place your hands (fingers and thumbs) at the sides to the bag itself to get even drawstrings on both sides.

Fan full length is approximately 18 inches long; the fan is approximately 8 inches, the handle is approx. 10 inches long by 1½ inches in width. The handle made of two paint stirring sticks has a painted design, is wrapped with cotton and hemp rope adorned with a decorative bead on each side.

Lined Draw String Carrying Bag is approx. 15 inches by 6 1/2 inches. It has two Velcro pockets: one approx. 6 inches by 6 inches on one side and a pocket approx. 6 inches by 4 inches on the other.
