This is a pair of exquisite sterling silver and deep-purple amethyst earrings from the 1930s. They were hand crafted in Mexico (then, and now, one of the silver jewelry capitals of the world). The silver behind the amethysts was polished to a mirror finish - which creates a stunning effect where light comes through the stone and then back out (its so effective you would think they were open back set). The shells were made by hammering silver into a steel mold and then trimming it to fit a perfectly match back cover. The screws are marked "SILVER MEXICO", which is consistent with pieces made in the 1900s-1930s. We describe then as "fine" sterling silver because they test at 950 instead of the standard 925 (in other words, they are better than regular sterling silver). The back of each earring has some it's original, patina - this can be polished off if you want - but please let me know by message or during checkout.
