Koa Wood is extremely rare yet one of the finest and most expensive of hardwood lumbers. Very little koa remains in agricultural zones in which harvesting is permitted. One of the only places to find Koa Wood is on the Big Island of Hawaii. My grandpa is fortunate enough to work with a distributor here on Oahu to purchase this type of wood for his carvings.
