Vintage Garay Black Brocade Structured Handbag buy with Ribbon Detail and Rhinestone Clasp

This elegant black double handled handbag was made by Garay of New York City, founded in 1937. The exterior consists of an elegant black brocade material which features a series of stylized butterflies. The pattern can best be appreciated in photo 3 when using the zoom function. The bag has a structured form with a hinged metal frame made by Ideal which closes at the top by virtue of a gold tone embossed circular clasp set with three clear faceted rhinestones. The piece has lots of storage with two deep pockets at either side along with a large central cavity. The inside of the bag is lined in black grosgrain fabric and has a zippered pocket on one side and buy a flat envelope style pocket lined in gold on the other. As seen in photo 5, the bag bears an oval gold colored label which reads "Garay" in script. The piece is finished with a set of two fabric covered handles, one of which is attached at the front with flat satin bows. The straps at the back are covered with satin tabs.

The bag is in good vintage condition showing minor wear to the fabric at the corners. The interior is clean and free of rips, tears or stains. The body of the bag measures just under 9.75" x 2.75" at the base and is 6" from the top of the frame to the bottom of the piece. When fully opened, the top of the frame measures just over 4" from edge to edge. The handles themselves have a 5.25" drop. The bag weighs in at 1lb 4oz.
