This is a surface-burned project.

A friend of mine has been telling me I need to try a burnt finish on something...well here we go.

I got out the torches and gave these two alters a singe...come to find out this technique goes back centuries and is known as Shou sugi ban...granted this is a scaled back version of that process.

* Please note that each piece of wood is different and burns may show as slightly lighter or darker than the images shown. I burn each piece based on how I feel it will look best.
