This Thangka depicts various activities and life cycles of Lord Buddha from birth, youth, old age, and nirvana( liberation). This is a symbolic representation of the material world in which one is forced to take birth, get old, be in pain, and die. This Thangka illustrates the teaching of Buddha. The wheel is controlled by Yamaraj (Monster-like figure) the god of death and is the decision-maker of every sentient beings reborn. Inside the wheel, 6 different realms can be seen. The upper three are higher realms and the lower three are lower realms. The upper three realms are Heaven, the Human World, and Demi god's world. The lower three realms are Hell, Animal's realm, and Hungry ghosts' realm

Mandala in Sanskrit means a circle. It represents wholeness and-a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
