Saint Anthonios

Born in Egypt to wealthy parents, Saint Antonios renounced his wealth and his earthly life, and departed to the desert. He became the exemplar of ascetic life and an inspiration symbol to all ascetics. He delivered his soul to God at the age of 105 years. The original icon, hagiographed by Michael Damaskinos is in the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens.
