All wood birdhouses are made from raw untreated fence material which makes it safe and easy on the birds by allowing the roughness of the interior for birds to grab, along with a dowel that protrudes through for extra grabbing power. The interior of birdhouse nest box is never treated with chemicals, as well as the entrance hole kept clean from paint. Each birdhouse I build has a unique roof design, engineered and created by me, which allows for ventilation air flow on each underside of eaves. The roof also covers the entrance hole which protects from rain entering, keeping the nest dry. Every decorative bird house or functional birdhouse is equipped with a clean out door on either the right or left hand side for nest removal and occasionally opens from the roof. Whether you choose to use it indoors for decorative home accent or hang it on your patio, tree, fence or just sitting on a shelf, it's meant for small cavity nesting birds and for outdoor use. Birdhouse accent materials buy are adhered with clear silicone that is weatherproof and freeze proof for that extra longevity outdoors. I use quality glue, nails and decorative screws to hold my birdhouses together.
Placement of your birdhouse is an important part of having the birds take occupancy in the nesting months. Make it a point to see where the sun hits the front of the birdhouse and for how long. Shade is needed for most of the day during the warmers months. You don't want to cook the little guys…Right? Being too close to an area that gets a lot of traffic will decrease the chance of occupancy as well. Unless the birds are use to your presence and feels safe, then placement near a door or porch is perfect. If you find the birdhouse is not being occupied after a long period of time, try moving to another location.

Protect your Birdhouse
No matter what type of wood was used in constructing your birdhouse, several natural enemies can cause it to dry out and crack. Extreme weather and climate shifts are typical culprits of birdhouses wood cracking. Despite the age of your birdhouse, with proper care and prevention methods, you can prevent cracking in the wood and help maintain the birdhouse for many years.
Note: Climate and the elements will weather the house and change its appearance over time; however, weathering will add to the house's natural charm without compromising its function. Should you want to preserve the finish (paint), you should select a polyurethane product that is recommended for marine use (UV Rated) that will not turn the white paint yellow. You should expect that once left outside, the product will weather and require refinishing
