Artifact Analysis:
The mermaid Syranne was known throughout Dewpointe, and even through the rest of the Landus Fantastius, as being kind and friendly towards humans--unlike her more volatile kin, whose tempers caused storms and threatening waves. Indeed, instead of causing shipwrecks, Syranne would meet with people on the shore; she loved to take the time to talk to them and share stories from her home deep in the Sea King's palace.
Now, while the mermaid made several human friends, there was one that she enjoyed spending time with the most: a young woman named Onna. They had met quite by chance--Onna was a traveler, and was visiting from a neighboring town--but the two of them became fast friends. Onna loved to hear the stories of the sea, and Syranne was delighted to hear tales of Onna's travels across the land.
Over the years, the time between their visits lengthened. Onna still traveled frequently, and was never in Dewpointe for long. To make up for it, the two of them started to exchange small trinkets to go along with their stories. While Onna would give the mermaid souvenirs from the different places she had been, Syranne would bring treasures from the deep--including pearls of many different shades and sizes.
It was not long before Onna decided to turn some of those pearls into a necklace. She wore it often on her travels to remind her of her friend--and Syranne was delighted to think that the pearls she had brought from the depths of the ocean had seen places that she, herself, could never go.
As time went on, they continued to not buy be able to visit as often as either of them liked… but they both had things to remember each other by, and they made sure to always have new stories to tell each other when they could meet again.
This necklace boasts five different colors of pearl: mauve, sage green, dusky blue, cream, and copper-brown. The shapes and textures of the pearls also vary slightly, adding to the interest and personality of the piece. Paired with silver-plated metal, the overall look is one of understated elegance… and it looks much like the necklace that Onna made: a beautiful reminder of an absent, but still incredibly dear, friend.
