Rhodochrosite Cabochon

a lovely stone cut from a section of a Rhodochrosite stalactite from the Capillitas Mine at Capillitas, Argentina. The Rhodochrosite is a waste rock in a hydrothermal gold/silver deposit but it is worth as much as the gold here. The Rhodochrosite is typically found as banded massive chunks but occasionally pockets are discovered that have rhodochrosite stalactites in varying shades of pink.

The stone is 31.2 mm by 20 mm by 4.6 mm thick at the thickest point and is 33 carats
