PSYCHOPOMP NOT PSYCHOPOMP is an ongoing body of work begun during the pandemic.
I first made these ghosts as a baby artist using glove fingers, metallic thread, and tiny handsewn outfits and props. I sold them at Neither/ Nor Gallery in NYC's lower east side when it was still dangerous. My kids dubbed them “Dendies” and it stuck.
SALTY. ALCHEMICAL. METALLIC. ORGANIC.
The creation of these images draws on the entire spectrum of my knowledge of photographic and plant-based printing methods. I consider these to be sort of parietal paintings made with light, mordants and plant dyes (berries, iron found at the local rail yard and weedy, industrial leaves and petals), using historic photographic methods ranging from gum bichromate to handmade silver canvases sensitive to light. Because of how they are made, the originals are something between a photograph and a painting. Look for some of the framed, original works to be offered on Etsy soon!
Some of these will be offered as unique, fugitive prints, meaning that they are unstable and will change over time, as seems appropriate for ghosts, while I am choosing a few favorites to offer as archival limited-edition prints on 100% cotton museum quality archival paper. I scan or photograph the original image and process minimally in Photoshop, retaining the artifacts created in the process used. I have over 300 unique ghostly prints that I'll be listing for sale over time. My goal is for them to be accessible and affordable, so each will be offered in a signed and limited edition of 25 in three sizes---that way you can create groupings! They are happiest when grouped together!
THIS LISTING IS FOR THE PRINT "ROSEMARY FOR REMEMBRANCE", SIGNED EDITION OF 25, IN ONE OF THREE SIZES. PRINTED ON 100% COTTON RAG PAPER. UNFRAMED.
Other photos show compatible pairings buy with another listing, and additional listings from the series. Sizes as listed are the image area not inclusive of the white border.
During this time, I think we have probably all had stray thoughts about the possibility of leaving our corporeal bodies. I began revisiting these characters originally created years ago and printed some each day whenever possible. I believe I needed their gleeful, chaotic presences.
My ghosts lead me not to the underworld and death but back to the living.
They are connected to my own darkness but made of light, conjured by the sun.
I offer you these small mischievous creatures to lift your “spirits”.
