To pianists, Vladimir Horowitz needs no introduction. He looms large over the classical piano world, even more so now, perhaps, than during his lifetime. This elegant factory-sealed vinyl record showcases historic performances Horowitz gave of music of Liszt and Schumann. The recordings took place in 1932 and 1934 in London's Abbey Road Studios (the buy same studios the Beatles would make famous thirty years later).

It's worth celebrating that this record is still factory sealed after all these years. Someone must have bought it as a back-up copy, is all I can think. It would make a great gift for a pianist -- Horowitz never goes out of style -- or for anyone who loves Romantic piano music and piano history.

This record is on the Angel Seraphim label. Seraphim records always had excellent notes and this one does. Here is another plus: You need not have extensive knowledge of classical music to enjoy listening to this. Two of the pieces on the record -- Liszt's Piano Sonata in B Minor and Schumann's "Arabeske" -- are among classical piano's "greatest hits"-- everyone loves them. The record also includes Schumann's famous Toccata and "Traumes Wirren" from the "Fantasiestucke," as well as Presto Passionato in G Minor, WoO 5/2. Liszt's "Funerailles" is also on the record and is also very famous.
