Really cool, hard to find item. William Dinwiddie's Times before the Reformation with an account of Fra Girolamo Savonarola the friar of Florence, 1880. New York Robert Carter and Brothers. Great copy for anyone interested in Savonarola, who ran Florence for a time and was famously the guy behind the concept of a "bonfire of the vanities" because he burned a bunch of Renaissance art. He was a self proclaimed prophet and burned at the stake in a historical moment still famous over 500 years later.
From wiki: He collected various objects that he considered to be objectionable: irreplaceable manuscripts, ancient sculptures, antique and modern paintings, priceless tapestries, and many other valuable works of art, as well as mirrors, musical instruments, and books of divination, astrology, and magic.
Basically a weird, early, and religiously fervent Burning Man or whatever.
Honestly not sure if this had a dust jacket, but we suspect not. Inside cover has some markers from a Church Reformed Church Sunday School in buy Philadelphia Green Street near Sixteenth with a handwritten number. The back appears to have glue from old library stickers as well. So it's curiously ex-library, but has not external markings to signify.
Some scuffing on outside cover. Otherwise a great find and rare item.
