This original box holds a writing set. Three of the five pieces have purple/blue plastic handles. Each of these pieces with the plastic handles are stamped "Germany". The five pieces are from top to bottom: 1) a dip pen with one nib that has a wooden handle. A close up of the nib is shown in picture #3. It does say "Spencer (?) Pen Co."; 2) a pen knife. It has a brass tone finish, but a magnet sticks so it is not brass. A small piece of the plastic is chipped off as you can see in picture #1; 3) a sealing wax stamp; 4) a mechanical pencil type piece that does not hold lead - maybe sealing wax?; and 5) a letter opener. The original box is simple with a dark paper top as seen in picture #9. The bottom is shown in picture #10. It has a simple single clasp closure. The box top is hinged. The box is 8-1/2" wide x 4-1/4" deep x almost buy 7/8" thick. This set is from the 1930s.
This set was used. As I mentioned above, there is a small piece of plastic chipped off of the pen knife. The metal finish is worn on those pieces. The paper on the bottom of the box is stained and scuffed. There is no associated odor. The fabric on the inside of the box also has some stains. There is no associated odor with these marks, also. The corners to the box has some rubs to the paper. Please see my pictures.
