Lovely small and precious, highly collectible open-work porcelain basket with handles, signed "Herend Hungary Handpainted". The pattern code BFR stands for Bouquet de Fruits (Fruits and Flowers), which is not very common, in fact it is one of the less widely available, as opposed to e.g. the Chinese Bouquet [Apponyi Fleur]. Several of Herend's patterns had multiple motifs, and this particular one had 12.
Herend fine porcelain is hand painted by highly-skilled craftsmen. This results in subtle variations in the decoration and a limited supply of china. Each piece is almost unique.
As to the date, since 1990 Herend marks have had date codes, and on this item the tiny "I96." stamped on the base could mean September 1996 (provided that's an "i" and not a "1").
